Parent Consultations for Eating Disorders

Clarity, Support & Next Steps For Navigating The Treatment Of Your Child’s Eating Disorder

When it comes to eating disorder treatment, almost all parents describe the process as overwhelming, terrifying, and confusing. I want to help!

Whether you’re just starting to notice shifts in your child’s eating habits or you already have a diagnosis and are navigating unfamiliar terms and treatment options, you’re likely feeling a mix of fear, confusion, exhaustion, and guilt.

You and your partner may be asking yourself questions like:

Do we need professional help or are we getting ahead of ourselves? What do all these terms like IOP, FBT or RTC even mean? How do I support my child without making things worse?

At the same time, you may be dealing with emotional burnout, family or marital stress, and pressure to hold everything together while quietly feeling like you’re falling apart. It’s common to feel anxious about your child’s health, confused by changes in their behavior, and completely overwhelmed by the complexity of treatment options. Many parents also feel isolated or dismissed by providers, unsure who to trust or how to advocate effectively.

These consultations are designed to bring you clarity, direction, and support – so you can move forward with confidence, knowing what your child needs and how to help.

This ED consultation is for parents and caregivers who …

Suspect their child may be struggling with disordered eating or body image

Have received a diagnosis but feel confused, scared, or unsupported

Are overwhelmed by the treatment process and the variety of options and terminology

Need to understand what’s urgent, what’s not, and how to move forward

Want help making clear and confident decisions grounded in expert care and experience

Are trying to support their child but don’t know what will help or make things worse

What You’ll Get From This Consultation

This service is a one-on-one, 90-minute consultation session for parents and caregivers. This service is based on my years of clinical expertise as an eating disorder therapist as well as my understanding of the entire eating disorder landscape.

  • We’ll walk through the levels of care (like outpatient therapy, IOP, RTC, PHP or hospitalization) so you can understand what they mean and when each one is appropriate.

  • If you’re confused by words like “FBT” or “nutritional restoration”?, I can translate the important basics of clinical language into something that actually makes sense to you.

  • This process is confusing! Bring all of your uncertainty, fear and questions – big or small. I’ll offer honest and compassionate answers and insight based on my years of clinical experience.

  • We’ll talk through your child’s unique situation, assess the level of urgency and determine what type of treatment they need, so you can move forward with confidence in your next steps

  • In most cases, I can give you personal referrals to the best treatment centers and suggestions for where to go. If outpatient therapy is appropriate, we can discuss working with your child.

  • I’ll share practical tips and frameworks on what to do at home and how to show up as a calm, grounded support system – without burning out or second-guessing yourself every step of the way.

If Therapy Is the Right Fit, We Can Begin That Work Together

If during the consultation, we determine that your child is an appropriate fit for outpatient therapy, and you and your child feel ready, I can begin working with them directly.

But if a higher level of care is needed first, I’ll guide you through what that looks like – from contacting treatment programs to gathering medical labs to asking the right questions during intake.

Once your child is stabilized and ready for outpatient support, I may be able to resume or begin therapy with them at that point.
