WHAT IS OCD?

Are you suffering from intrusive and obsessive thoughts? Do you play the “what if” game in your mind for hours or need to flip the light switch, sometimes dozens of times, before you're convinced that things will be ok?

Obsessive thoughts range from mildly annoying to completely debilitating and for some, compulsive behaviors help them feel safe during uncertainty and doubt. Untreated, OCD is a never-ending cycle of seeking safety and avoiding discomfort.

Therapy is a space to challenge obsessive thoughts and resist compulsive behaviors strategically and with purpose. In treating OCD I use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Together, we will confront your OCD themes one by one to help you feel less consumed and more free in your day-to-day life.

HOW THERAPY CAN HELP

A Space to Get “Unstuck” from OCD

OCD treatment using Exposure and Response Prevention requires commitment and a desire to get out from under your OCD. Many of my clients start to feel less “stuck” in their thoughts and behaviors after just a few ERP sessions.

Together, we’ll work toward helping you:

  • Understand what OCD is and how it is affecting you

  • Identify and call out your obsessive thoughts

  • Challenge your compulsive behaviors

  • Label the core emotions triggered by your OCD (e.g. fear, worry, disgust)

  • Build confidence in your ability to manage intense emotion

  • Get rid of avoidance and safety behaviors

  • Work through your OCD “hierarchy” using ERP

“Meg is a very supportive therapist. She has a knack for seeing her clients through complex situations with empathy and attuned guidance. While working beside her as a colleague, I noticed how her experience treating eating disorders and body image challenges translated to creative, strength-based interventions that helped clients see themselves and their struggles with greater compassion.”

HOW I WORK

Evidence-Based Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD

I bring a warm, grounded, and relational approach to my work and when treating OCD, I always use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). In addition to these modalities, I bring in elements of mindfulness, aligning with values, and incorporate a strengths-based approach in sessions.

My goal in OCD therapy is to help you break the cycle of your OCD, gain self-confidence, and feel more in control of your emotions and thoughts. Together, we will help you get past your OCD so that you can move towards building the life you want.
